Implementation:
INTER-AM is committed to implementing interventions that ensure the achievement of our clients’ goals and that benefit the community that they are designed to help.
We work with Hispanics with diverse socioeconomic backgrounds in rural and urban settings, on one-time interventions and/or in extended programs (from 4 to 12 weeks.) We believe that teaching or facilitating is more than merely presenting concepts and ideas. Thus, our moderators are required to demonstrate contextual understanding of the culture and experiences of the target group.
We assist health care practitioners and agencies working with patients or community groups with limited English literacy skills. We work with people from different cultures and backgrounds. Example of recent projects:
Facilitation of health sessions on nutrition and physical activity for low-literacy Latino women sponsored by a non-profit community organization.
Facilitation of a train-the-trainer workshop for an educational institution to lay health advisors on how to effectively give prenatal care information to low literacy Latino women.
Facilitation of HIV-AIDS sessions for high-risk Latino patients organized by a community health clinic.
Conducted a needs assessment for a health department regarding barriers to diabetes self-management among Latino men and women. In our trainings and health sessions we emphasize:
● hands-on participation
● building trust and rapport
● clarifying misconceptions
● one-on-one clarification of concepts (when needed)
● appropriate graphic and reading materials
● linkage with community services
● self-management practices among Latino men and women
We can assist you with:
● needs assessments
● cross cultural seminars
● health sessions
● train-the trainer sessions for professionals and/or lay people
